Storytelling in Nine Schools organised by the Rotary Club of Skegness. 2022 June
I was commissioned to tell stories and lead storytelling workshops in nine schools in the Skegness area. The project was organised by Margaret Taylor as a project developed by the Rotary Club of Skegness.
The lessons introduced the children to Lincolnshire stories and dialect. I taught the children some Lincolnshire dialect and how to greet one another as the old folks used to do. We also looked at some old Lincolnshire words; the children had to guess the meaning of the words. The Lincolnshire flag was held up by children in each class and they discovered what the colours and symbols stand for.
St. Peter & St. Paul Church of England Primary School in Burgh le Marsh – 6th June
In Burgh Marsh School I told a story in Assembly – Collective Worship for the whole school. I then told stories in classes of Key Stage 2. It was a wonderful day with the headmaster, teachers and children being so enthusiastic about storytelling and Lincolnshire stories.

Beacon Primary Academy in Skegness – 7th June
I commenced with Reception/Y1/Y2 followed by Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 throughtout the day.
“Thank you so so much! The children really enjoyed it and were hooked by your stories! They also loved the (Lincolnshire) words and guessing their meanings! They enjoyed the history and that they were true stories!“

Richmond School in Skegness – 8th June
I told stories to all the classes Reception, Years 1 – 6. In Assembly – Collective worship, I told a West African story which was very well received. In the afternoon, I lead two workshops for the KS2 best readers in which I taught the children to create, remember and tell stories without a script.
“Keith engaged our children instantly and they were hooked on every word. Enjoyable and a wonderfully unique experience for them! Also lovely to hear and expose the children to a story from their local area. Thank you!“

Ingoldmells Academy – 9th June 2022
In Ingoldmells Academy, I spent the morning with Years 3, 4 and 5.
“The children were very engaged in the stories and really enjoyed them.“
“The children were engaged and enjoyed it when you used the tomborine and actions. ‘Would be useful to use a map of the area to support your stories as the children don’t know the wider area well.“
“The children enjoyed learning the Lincolnshire words.”
Thank you for the comment regarding the map of Lincolnshire and so I acted on this and added a map to my subsequent presentations.

Magdalen Church of England /Methodist Primary School: 13th June.
I told stories to Years 3, 4 ,5 and 6. During the course of the morning sessions, we looked at the Lincolnshire flag and discoved what the colours and symbols stood for. I did this exercise in all the schools.

Seathorne Primary Academy – 14th June 2022
I led the classes Years 3 – 6, telling stories and asking them to guess what some Lincolnshire words mean. In the photograph the word is “frit” – does it mean – a pancake, to be frightened or a staircase?

Great Steeping Primary School – 15th June 2022
Here I told stories and showed Year 5/6 how to tell stories. They were brilliant!
In the workshop in Great Steeping School, the children where taught create stories, remember the stories and tell the stories without reference to written text. It was a brilliant morning with many of the children taking an active part.
“Thoroughly enjoyable and engaging. The children especially enjoyed the story of the “Wormsgay Dragon”. I think many will be looking out for the burial ground!
A lovely activity getting the children to be oral storytellers. Thank you very much.“

Friskney All Saints Church of England Primary School: 16th June
I started with the young ones and followed on with Years 3/4 and Years 5/6. Here I am explaining how I got my name.
“Thank you so much for a wonderful afternoon. It was so nice so have a visitor in school after COVID and for the children to have the storyteller experience.”

Viking School, Skegness – 17th June 2022
With the KS2 childen I started off by telling them some Lincolnshire stories. The after a break we did a workshop in which the children learnt how to tell stories. Some of the children told stories to the whole class.
